Which vacuum cleaner to choose: with a bag or with a container?
The share of bagless vacuum cleaners in the markets - both Russian and international - is growing. Vacuum cleaners with bags are being replaced everywhere by cyclonic ones - with plastic containers for collecting dust. However, many customers remain unhappy with their cyclones: they are noisy and container cleaning is not as “basic” and hygienic as expected. Maybe the bag is better? We understand the merits of cyclones and "anticyclones".
Pros of bag vacuum cleaners
Hygiene
Experts say that, nevertheless, a bag - if, of course, it is made in compliance with certain technologies - is a more hygienic dust collector than a container. The fact is that a bag made of multilayer material is not only a dust storage, but also a part of the filtration system. When the manufacturer indicates among the advantages of the model, for example, "7 stages of filtration", then 4 of them just fall on the bag. In addition, the correct bag, when replaced, is tightly closed with a valve, so all dust remains in the bag, there is no contact with it at all. Some manufacturers value the hygiene of bag models so highly that they remain faithful to them for as long as possible. For example, Miele had no cyclone models in its range until 2016: at the IFA in Berlin, the company presented its first bagless vacuum cleaner. Find more at the https://kstech.com.ua
Simplicity of design
Simpler design - less chance of breakage. This principle also applies to dust collectors: cyclonic ones are quite complex, narrow channels of a multicyclone can get clogged - for example, if you accidentally vacuum something wet, the container itself may break or crack and then you will have to buy a new branded one, which is not always possible.
Large suction power
As a rule, it is higher than that of cyclonic vacuum cleaners: in the cyclone itself, its losses are inevitable, while air passes through the bag directly. True, it also decreases faster - as the bag is filled.
Quiet operation
Bag vacuum cleaners, as a rule, are quieter than their cyclonic "colleagues": the bag is located inside the body and works not only as a dust collector, but also as a sound absorber.
Pros of cyclonic vacuum cleaners
Profitability
It is not true that the cyclone does not require consumables at all: filter replacement is almost always necessary. But there is no need to buy bags - this is the main, the most obvious advantage, for which the cyclone is forgiven for noise and not always hygienic cleaning of the container.
Fast and always ready to work
I emptied the container, put it in its place - and the vacuum cleaner is ready to work again. In the case of a bag, everything is the same, but provided that the bag is available.
Stable suction power throughout cleaning
First of all, this applies to multicyclones, where there are at least two (or better, more) dust separation chambers using a vortex flow, then the probability of stable operation of the device during the entire cleaning is quite high. The more cyclones in the system, the less the suction power decreases during operation.
Lack of a specific "vacuum" smell
When the air passes through a bag of dust, and even if it is heated air (and by the end of the cleaning it is like that), then an unpleasant smell is inevitable. An exception can be considered the situation with the use of special bags that absorb odor or charcoal filters - but this is an additional cost. There is practically no smell from the cyclonic vacuum cleaner.
Possibility of improving the design of the cyclone and dust collector
Dust pressing system (rotating blade in containers of LG Kompressor vacuum cleaners, piston in some Hoover models, etc.) makes it possible to fit a lot of dust into a compact container and empty it less often. With the latest Dyson models, the cyclone tips vibrate and automatically clean without the need to change filters. Aquafilters (for example, in models Thomas, Kärcher, Philips, etc.) are also made on the basis of a cyclonic system.
Engineers are also working on the hygiene of emptying containers: models have already appeared on the market, the plastic dust collectors of which are cleaned really without contact with their contents. True, while these are expensive models of the most advanced brands, for example, Dyson, and they are very expensive. But, as practice shows, if someone alone came up with a principle, soon many will use it or similar. So the problem of insufficient hygiene of cyclones will be solved in the near future.
Controversial issue
Less stress on the outlet filter: bag or cyclone?
The suction power of the vacuum cleaner is noticeably reduced as the bag fills, therefore, the cleaning efficiency decreases. Therefore, the bag is usually changed ahead of time, without waiting for system signals. This is good for the exhaust filter: in cyclones, when the container is already full and the vacuum cleaner is running, some of the dust can go out and damage the exhaust filter earlier than it should.
On the other hand, multi-cyclone systems (the more cyclones, the better) dust trapping is very effective. The load on the HEPA filter in such models is minimal, as in vacuum cleaners with aquafilters. But in cheap container models, the exhaust filter has a very high load and it will need to be changed as often as a bag in a bag model: no savings.
